ProEnergy Receives 2012 CiCi Award for Community Impact

Corporate Development Investments total more than $11.6 billion; over 34,500 jobs created and retained

Trade & Industry Development, the leading magazine dedicated to site selection, has announced its 7th Annual CiCi (Corporate Investment & Community Impact) Awards.

The 30 recipients of the 2012 CiCi Awards helped create 26,605 new jobs, retain 7,902 jobs, and represent investments in excess of more than $11.6 billion. (This data is provided by respondents and includes estimations of future growth.)

“During a year when the U.S. economy grew only slightly, the 30 companies recognized by our 7th Annual CiCi Awards stand out as gleaming examples of where the growth occurred, said Scott D. Swoger, publisher, Trade & Industry Development magazine, and president, Due North Consulting, Inc. “The sum of the investments made by the CiCi Award recipients coupled with the economic impact they will have on the communities in which they are located will be transformational, Swoger asserted.

Swoger also noted that there is a broad spectrum of U.S. industries represented in the 2012 CiCi Awards, including manufacturing companies in the “green” energy industry, software/IT and a strong showing in the automotive and auto-related industries.

The CiCi Awards are unique in that they are a dual-awards program. The CiCi Awards not only highlight the largest corporate investment projects, but also recognize those projects that may not involve large investments, but make the most notable impact on communities. There are a number of criteria considered for the Impact division, including: number of new jobs created, number of current jobs retained, unemployment figures, income level of the region and plant closings.

According to the magazine’s editors, hundreds of submissions were received, from which only those that were announced and confirmed in 2011 were considered. The submissions were carefully scrutinized in both Corporate Investment and Community Impact categories, and the editors honed the selection to just 30 companies—based solely on verifiable information and without monetary influence.

Winners of the 2012 CiCi Corporate Investment division are:

  • IM Flash Technologies—Lehi, Utah
  • Continental Tire the Americas—Sumter, South Carolina
  • Ford Motor Company—Louisville, Kentucky
  • Ford Motor Company—Kansas City, Missouri
  • M&G Group—Corpus Christi, Texas
  • Calisolar—Columbus, Mississippi

Winners of the 2012 CiCi Community Impact division are:

  • Amazon.com, Inc.—Murfreesboro & Lebanon, Tennessee
  • General Motors—Spring Hill, Tennessee
  • Elevance Renewable Sciences Inc.—Natchez, Mississippi
  • Gentex—Holland, Michigan

  • ProEnergy Services—Sedalia, Missouri
  • Quaprotek—Ripley, Tennessee
  • MANN+HUMMEL USA—Dunlap, Tennessee
  • Changan, US Research Development Center—Plymouth, Michigan

Swoger concluded that in addition to the immediate impact these projects will have on the companies receiving the Award—and their new or retained employees—all of the 2012 CiCi Award projects announced here are contributing to an improved U.S. economy and putting a positive drive and improved morale back into the communities in which they are located.

EPS Provides International Emergency Transformer Solution

Energy Parts Solutions, a division of ProEnergy Services, was recently awarded a rental project to deliver and install a new 138kV 100MVA GE Prolec Transformer for Trinity Power Limited. The rental Transformer was installed on a fast track basis to restore a GE Frame 7EA to service. The entire project from order to when the unit was ready for service in Trinidad and Tobago took only 16 days, including 9 days of ocean transit time. The order was received on January 12th. EPS’ High Voltage Solutions team timed their mobilization to the project site to coincide with the Transformer’s arrival on January 22nd. Upon arrival, EPS disassembled the customer’s failed unit in 24 hours to ensure that the rental unit could be immediately set in place. The new unit arrived in Trinidad and Tobago on January 24th, at which time EPS assembled, vacuum filled and tested the unit in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements. The Transformer was completed and ready to be connected to the site by January 28th.

The original solution was contracted on a rental basis, so the customer still had to formulate a long-term solution for the original Transformer failure. EPS was able to assist again by providing a new, customized 119MVA 138kV Transformer on a turnkey basis which will serve as the client’s permanent solution. EPS will have the Transformer delivered and installed by August 15th, 2012.

“This type of fast track project is a perfect example of why we maintain a very large inventory of new and surplus transformers,” said Company President Bill Mars. “Our access to this type of inventory, along with our flexibility and experience allows us execute projects with very fast turnarounds.”

ProEnergy Sponsors Show-Me BEST Robotics Competition

ProEnergy Services recently had the honor of serving as corporate sponsor of the Show-Me BEST (Boosting Engineering Science and Technology) BUGS! competition. The event took place October 22 at State Fair Community College in Sedalia. Thirteen Missouri and Illinois teams made up of middle school and high school students competed.

Partnering with SFCC and other area businesses, ProEnergy’s sponsorship helped provide funds for the kits that students used to build their robots. ProEnergy Turbine Services Repairs V94.2 Blades in Record Time

ProEnergy Turbine Services recently completed the repair of three sets of V94.2 blades with full stripping and coating in only six weeks. Applying Turbine Services’ rigorous inspection process it was discovered that the blades would require major repairs.

Through the chemical stripping process, extra care was taken to prevent damaging the platinum pins located in the airfoil. The parts were then evaluated by the Turbine Services’ engineering team to design the repair scheme. This fast track project included weld repairs of foreign object damages as well as a tip build up using a specialized proprietary welding procedure designed by ProEnergy’s Turbine Services engineering team. The application of HVOF coatings using multicoat equipment allowed for higher yields and performance comparable to new blades.

“We pride ourselves on our ability to use state-of-the-art technology processes to complete projects in much shorter lead times,” said Marcial Trujillo, ProEnergy’s Vice President of Heavy Industrial Turbine Products. “We work very closely with our customers, and have found that those relationships also contribute to the quick turnaround times we are able to provide.”

7EA Conversion Saves Time and Money

ProEnergy Services was recently contracted to install six Frame 7EA DLN1.0 Dual Units in Venezuela. ProEnergy Turbine Services, a division of ProEnergy Services, assisted in the procurement of the fuel nozzle components. After determining the lead time to supply all of the required sets would not meet schedule demands, it was decided to convert the fuel nozzles removed from a gas only unit, to a dual fuel configuration.

The complete re-engineering portion of the project was performed in only three weeks. Utilizing 3D models, the parts were virtually reassembled to ensure proper fit prior to being manufactured. These models were then utilized to create detailed part drawings, facilitating the procurement of the necessary details. All fuel system components were manufactured, inspected and delivered within six weeks of the project start date. In addition, the process provided a 25% cost savings over the traditional method of replacing the parts.

“We are excited to offer the conversion of single fuel units to dual fuel,” said Marcial Trujillo, VP of ProEnergy Turbine Services. “We have been successful performing this conversion on multiple turbine types. This flexibility and cost savings will benefit our customers significantly.”
